Making a difference in Wellington

Volunteer with us

The SPCA has been in Wellington over 130 years and now has pride of place in the old Fever Hospital in the Green belt in Newtown on Mount Victoria.

The Fever Hospital was originally open in 1919 for human patients and was open just before Christmas 2013 just for animals.

As well as space for animals to be rehomed, the SPCA’s Wellington Centre, known as the Margaret Doucas Animal Hospital has a full veterinary hospital providing care for the animals in the community as well as those in SPCA care.

With a focus on community engagement and proactive solutions to animal needs, there is also the opportunity to hire areas of the Centre for functions and events.

Found Animals

If you have found a sick or injured animal, contact us immediately on 04 389 8044 or 0800 467732.

If you have found a roaming or dangerous dog, please call Wellington City Council on 04 801 3222 or 04 499 4444 after hours.

If the animal is healthy and not in danger, please click here to see how you can help.

Lost Animals

We list every incoming stray animal on www.lostpet.co.nz so please check the listings to see if we might have your missing pet.

If your animal is not listed, we have some tips on how to find your pet on our Advice & Welfare section.
