Identification of Companion Animals
SPCA advocates that owners of a companion animal ensure that the animal is appropriately identifiable.
Where practical for the species, companion animals should be identified with both a microchip and external identification, such as an appropriate collar and identification tag. The animal’s microchip registration details should be kept up-to-date on appropriate registers (e.g. the New Zealand Companion Animal Register and National Dog Database).
