Volunteer Driver

Do you enjoy being out on the road and want to make a difference for animals in your community? We’re looking for reliable, safety-conscious volunteers to join our team of drivers and help keep SPCA’s operations moving smoothly across Aotearoa. Volunteer Drivers play an essential role in supporting both our animals and our wider community- ensuring animals, donations, and supplies get where they need to go safely and on time.

What You Could Help With:

  • Animal transport - safely transporting animals between centres, veterinary clinics, foster homes, or to and from the community.
  • Community & foster transport - delivering supplies, collecting foster animals, or assisting with appointment transport.
  • Donation collections - picking up food, goods, or equipment from supermarkets, businesses, or community donors.
  • General deliveries & errands - supporting one-off transfers or collections for your local centre or op shop network.

You may choose to focus on one area or assist across several depending on your interests and availability. Volunteers may be required to drive an SPCA vehicle or their own vehicle (subject to centre resource and approval).

What We Are Looking For:

  • Must be aged 18 years or older.
  • Full, clean, current NZ driver’s licence.
  • Safe, confident, and courteous driver with good local area knowledge.
  • Reliable, proactive, and able to follow directions independently.
  • Physically fit - some lifting, loading, and bending required.
  • Good English comprehension.
  • Able to drive both manual and automatic vehicles (preferred).
  • Experience handling animals or driving vans is an advantage, but full training and support will be provided.
  • Able to provide a Ministry of Justice Check.
