Animal Care Volunteer
Greymouth Centre
Do you love animals and want to make a real difference? Join us as an Animal Care Volunteer and help with the daily care and wellbeing of animals at our centre.
What You Could Help With:
- Dogs & Puppies - feeding, cleaning kennels and runs, walking and providing enrichment and socialisation.
- Cats & Kittens - feeding, cleaning enclosures, assisting with socialisation and enrichment.
- Small Animals (e.g. rabbits, guinea pigs) - feeding, cleaning hutches, and spending time socialising with them.
- Hospital care - supporting our team with cleaning, preparing food, restocking supplies, and caring for unwell or recovering animals.
- Other Animals - supporting the care of birds, reptiles, and other species.
You may choose to focus on one area or assist across several, depending on your interests and availability.
What We Are Looking For:
- Reliable, self-motivated, and hands-on volunteers.
- Able to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Physically able to handle cleaning, lifting, or animal handling.
- Confidence around your chosen species. You’ll need to remain calm, patient, and comfortable working closely with animals of different sizes, behaviours, and temperaments.
- Previous animal care experience is a plus, though training and support is provided.
- Good English comprehension.
- Must be at least 16 years old, or at least 18 years old to work with canines.
- Preferably able to commit for at least 6 months.

For: Animal Care Volunteer at Greymouth Centre
Thanks for your interest in volunteering with SPCA. Volunteers are a huge part of our team - we couldn’t do what we do without you!
To get started, just fill out the form below. If you need help, please call the team at your local SPCA Centre or op shop.
A few things to note:
- You must be at least 15 to volunteer in our Op Shops or 16 to volunteer at our Centres. If you are younger, please check out our sections on 'Volunteering for Kids', 'Volunteering from Home' or talk to your family about fostering opportunities.
- You may need to provide an up to date Ministry of Justice check during this process, and we'll ask about any medical conditions so we can ensure your safety while volunteering.
- Information collected as part of this application process may also be used for placement screening, administration, health, safety and wellbeing purposes, to communicate with you about your role, and to promote SPCA goods and services that may interest you. Information collected by SPCA will be treated in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and the SPCA Privacy Statement.
