Making a difference in WhangareiVolunteer with us
Under Alert Level 2 our Centre is only open by appointment. We ask anyone who would like to come to the Centre with enquiries about adoptions, fostering and volunteering, to contact us first and make an appointment. You can do so by visiting the relevant page on our website or by calling our Centre on the number provided above. Physical distancing, mask-wearing, and contact tracing measures will be in place.
The SPCA inspectorate based in Whangarei covers an area from the Brynderwyns across to the Kaipara Harbour, up through Dargaville to just south of Kaikohe, to Waiomio south of Kawakawa, then back across to the east coast (to just north of Whangaruru North). Around 3,000 animals are brought to our centre annually, and each year we investigate around 900 animal abuse complaints.
If you have found a sick or injured animal, contact us immediately on 09 438 9161.
If you have found a roaming or dangerous dog, please call the Whangarei District Council on 09 430 4200.
If the animal is healthy and not in danger, please click here to see how you can help.
We list every incoming stray animal on www.lostpet.co.nz so please check the listings to see if we might have your missing pet.
If your animal is not listed, we have some tips on how to find your pet on our Advice & Welfare section.
