Whakatane Centre
Making a difference in Whakatane
Volunteer with usIn 2014, SPCA's Whakatane Centre celebrated its 60th anniversary. Our new purpose-built building was opened in 2003, thanks to strong support from our local community. This facility enables us to help more than 750 animals each year.
We have a team of part-time staff assisted by more than 50 volunteers to look after the animals while they await their forever homes.
The Whakatane Centre covers a large area encompassing rural, coastal and suburban communities within the Eastern Bay. We promote lifelong adoptions, responsible pet ownership and we aim to educate the public on animal welfare issues.
Since 2010 we have provided assistance to community service card holders for desexing of their pets. This initiative aims to control the number of unwanted animals brought to the centre each year.
The Whakatane SPCA Op Shop was opened in 2014 to provide additional local funds towards the operation of the centre.
