In 2024, SPCA celebrated its 70th anniversary in Whakatane. Our purpose-built Centre was opened in 2003, thanks to strong support from our local community. This facility enables us to help many hundreds of animals each year.
We have a team of part-time staff assisted by our dedicated volunteers to look after the animals while they await their forever homes.
The Whakatane Centre covers a large area encompassing rural, coastal and suburban communities within the Eastern Bay. We promote lifelong adoptions, responsible pet ownership and we aim to educate the public on animal welfare issues.
