SPCA's Hokitika Centre works with the Westland community to improve the lives of all animals in the region.
In February 2019 we were able to open a brand new, purpose-built Centre, thanks to the support of our wonderful community. Now, in 2025, we're reopening our doors.
We also have a thriving op shop on the main street of Hokitika to support the work we do.
If you have found a sick or injured animal, contact us immediately on 03 755 8265.
Welfare calls are for cruelty, neglect or abuse of animals. Call centre hours for welfare are 8:30am-5pm, 7 days a week. If an animal is in life-threatening, immediate danger due to cruelty or abuse outside of hours, please dial 111 and request Police assistance.
If you have found a roaming or dangerous dog, please call the Westland District Council on 03 756 9010 or 0800 474 834.
