New Zealanders help Fill the Bucket for vulnerable animals
The return of SPCA’s street appeal along with a new appeal website resulted in generous donations from animal lovers around the nation.
SPCA’s beloved street appeal returned this year after a five-year hiatus. Passionate volunteers took to the streets on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 May, shaking the buckets for animals in need.
“It was wonderful to have so many volunteers join the cause, and volunteer their time to raise money for the animals,” says SPCA Events Manager Elinor Birch. “We’re so grateful to everyone who gave a donation. We rely heavily on donations from the public to continue our important work, so every dollar is greatly appreciated.”
Along with volunteers collecting on the streets, a fundraising website was set up to make donating even easier. The online donation option reflected the changes in the ways we live and give since the last SPCA street appeal took place in early 2020, before Covid lockdowns.
This year, the campaign to Fill the Bucket has raised an incredible $140,322.
“We know times are tough at the moment with the cost of living, so we don’t take this support for granted,” says Elinor. “We care for over 30,000 animals each year at SPCA, and we couldn’t do it without help.”
If you missed the appeal and would like to give to animals in need, donations can still be made online.
