Canine volunteer

Are you passionate about dogs & looking for a rewarding way to help animals in need? Join our team as a Weekday Canine Volunteer to make a real difference in the lives of our shelter dogs!

Canine Volunteers support our Canine Attendants, where your role will include:

  • Cleaning & Resetting Pens: Involves clearing pens of bedding & poo! Hosing down dog pens, including chemical cleans when needed, resetting beds by providing fresh bedding & toys.
  • Housekeeping Tasks: Washing dishes & toys, sorting laundry, & keeping areas tidy.
  • Socialisation & Exercise: Volunteers will socialise with puppies & dogs & walk them within the SPCA grounds.
  • Upskilling Opportunities: Once self-sufficient in the Adoptions area, volunteers can receive additional training to assist in other canine areas, including off-site walks.

This is a physical job – no need for that gym membership!

  • Able to communicate in English in a very effective way

  • Have a good level of fitness
  • Committed to doing a 4 hour shift weekly, on any day from Mondays to Fridays, for a min of 6 months
  • Be at least 16 years old
