Volunteer positions
Hospital volunteer
Auckland (Mangere) Centre
We are looking for people to volunteer in our Feline Hospital area during the week and weekend.
We are looking for people to volunteer in our Feline Hospital area during the week and weekend. Our Cat Ward is the area that houses our incoming cats and our Animal Recovery Centre (ARC) is our cat flu quarantine area. Hospital Volunteers help to feed, socialise and groom our cats in Cat Ward along with completing basic cleaning duties.
When Hospital Volunteers become confident handling ill cats, you may be given the opportunity to upskill into ARC. The Hospital areas are closed to members of the public
This is a busy area as cats are coming in and going out all day, so you need to have a reasonable level of fitness. The cat cages in the room are at a range of different heights so you also need to be able to bend comfortably.
We need volunteers who:
- Are confident with handling cats of all sizes.
- Are hardworking and reliable.
- Have excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
You must be able to commit to a weekly four-hour shift for a period of at least six months (weekday shifts), or a monthly four hour shift for a period of at least twelve months (weekend shifts). Shifts are strictly limited and will be assigned as applications are received. The available shifts include:
-
Monday-Friday 8.30am-12pm OR 1pm-4pm
-
Saturday-Sunday 8.15am-12pm OR 12.15pm-4pm
If you have any questions, please phone us on 09 256 7304 or email auckland.volunteer@spca.nz.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for SPCA. Volunteers are a vital part of the SPCA team and we simply couldn't do the work we do without the large number of volunteers who donate their time to help the animals.
Please fill out this form as completely as you are able. If you need assistance, please call the team at your local SPCA Centre or op shop.
