Veterinary and Hospital Volunteer

Volunteers help out in the animal hospital and isolation areas. Work in these areas includes cleaning cages, setting up bedding, feeding and moving ill or injured animals.

Help our most vulnerable animals

The animals here are often scared and stressed and require gentle and quiet handling.

No previous experience is necessary to volunteer in this area.

Working in the veterinary and hospital area is great for those wanting to:

  • Gain experience with a number of different species, e.g. cats, kittens, puppies, dogs, hedgehogs, birds.
  • Gain experience before going on to to train as a vet, vet nurse or animal care attendant.
  • Gain more experience if already qualified as a vet nurse or animal care attendant.
  • Minimum age: 16 years, however to handle the adult dogs in this area, volunteers must be 18 years of age.
  • Personal time commitment: you must be able to commit to a regular shift for a period of at least six months.
  • Training: you will be required to attend training sessions for your specific area, in addition to receiving training while on-the-job during your shift.

Shifts available:

  • Monday – 8am – 12pm

  • Tuesday – 8am – 12pm, 3pm - 5pm

  • Wednesday - 8am - 12pm

  • Thursday – 8am – 12pm, 3pm - 5pm

  • Friday – 8am – 12pm

  • Saturday - 8am - 12pm

  • Sunday - 8am - 12pm
