Animal volunteer
Dannevirke Centre
We are looking for volunteers to help with the daily work of caring for our cats and kittens, and the occasional dog or rabbit, or simply sitting quietly and stroking a timid cat or kitten.
Care of the animals is needed twice daily by volunteers seven days a week.
You will be involved a range of duties such as:- Cleaning cages
- Feeding the animals
- Caring for the animals
- Washing and Washing up
- Cleaning and sorting equipment
- Stocking supplies
- Medicating animals from time to time
- Transport cats/kittens to/from vets
You must be confident at handling animals, hardworking and reliable, and able to work unsupervised.
You must be prepared to be rostered to a shift and to commit for a minimum of 6 months.
You likely will be the only person on duty with key access to the facility so your commitment to a shift is essential. For this reason the minimum age for volunteering in this role is 20 years of age, at the Centre Manager’s discretion.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for SPCA. Volunteers are a vital part of the SPCA team and we simply couldn't do the work we do without the large number of volunteers who donate their time to help the animals.

Please note: All of our centres and op shops have minimum age requirements to volunteer. For op shop volunteers the minimum age is 15 years. For volunteering at a centre, please enquire with them directly if you are under 16 years of age. You may be need to provide an up-to-date Ministry of Justice check prior to starting.
