Why we want you

Our valued volunteers are a vital part of our team. SPCA could not function without volunteers who donate their time freely, in many valuable roles. As an SPCA Volunteer you are part of our volunteer family/whanau, which includes Animal Centre Volunteers, Op Shop Volunteers and Foster Parents.

Your work directly supports the day-to-day care and wellbeing of animals in need, ensuring these animals receive the care, comfort, and support they need. We are hugely grateful for your contribution to help create a better life for New Zealand's animals!

What you'll be doing

  • Feeding dogs and puppies.
  • Cleaning kennels and runs.
  • Refreshing bedding, food, and water.
  • Walking dogs and supporting exercise.
  • Providing enrichment, play, and socialisation.

The skills you need

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and hands-on volunteers.
  • Able to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Physically able to handle cleaning, lifting, or animal handling.
  • Confidence around dogs and puppies. You’ll need to remain calm, patient, and comfortable working closely with animals of different sizes, behaviours, and temperaments.
  • Previous animal care experience is a plus, though training and support is provided.
  • Good English comprehension.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to work with canines.
  • Preferably able to commit for at least 6 months.
