Events & Fundraising Volunteer
Whakatane Centre
Are you looking for a fun, flexible way to make a difference for animals? Event volunteering is a great option for those who want to support SPCA’s work but can’t commit to regular shifts - or who simply love getting involved in community events and fundraising activities!
What You Could Help With:
- Local events - Helping at community events such as centre open days, adoption events, or special campaigns.
- Local fundraising - Helping at community fundraisers such as sausage sizzles, market stalls or quiz nights.
- National Fundraising - Supporting fundraising activities, including SPCA’s Fill the Bucket Appeal and Cupcake Day.
You may choose to focus on one area or assist across several depending on your interests and availability.
When You Will Be Needed
Each centre has different opportunities throughout the year - from one-off event days to larger campaigns. National events run throughout the year, including SPCA Cupcake Day and Annual 'Fill the Bucket' Street Appeal. Centres will contact you when opportunities arise in your region.
What We Are Looking For
- Friendly, enthusiastic volunteer who enjoy meeting new people.
- Reliable and comfortable working as part of a team.
- Confident communicating with members of the public.
- Able to stand for periods of time and carry and set up event materials.
- A love for animals and a willingness to support fundraising efforts.
- Must be aged 16 years or older.
- No regular commitment is required - you can choose which events to take part in, depending on your availability.

Thanks for your interest in volunteering with SPCA. Volunteers are a huge part of our team - we couldn’t do what we do without you!
To get started, just fill out the form below. If you need help, please call the team at your local SPCA Centre or op shop.
A few things to note:
- You must be at least 15 to volunteer in our Op Shops or 16 to volunteer at our Centres. If you are younger, please check out our sections on 'Volunteering for Kids', 'Volunteering from Home' or talk to your family about fostering opportunities.
- You may need to provide an up to date Ministry of Justice check during this process, and we'll ask about any medical conditions so we can ensure your safety while volunteering.
- Information collected as part of this application process may also be used for placement screening, administration, health, safety and wellbeing purposes, to communicate with you about your role, and to promote SPCA goods and services that may interest you. Information collected by SPCA will be treated in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and the SPCA Privacy Statement.
