Making a difference in WestportVolunteer with us
Under New Zealand’s Orange traffic light system, our Centres are open to the public, however appointments must be made for adoption enquiries, foster appointments and volunteering interest. Please note that members of the public do not require a vaccine pass for entry to an SPCA Centre.
If you are interested in adopting, fostering or volunteering, please contact us via the website or by phoning us to make an appointment, our team will be able to discuss next steps. In line with Government regulations, physical distancing and face coverings measures are still required and must be adhered to when entering our workplaces. If you have a face mask exemption, please bring it with you.
The SPCA Centre in Westport (previously SPCA Buller) has a tight-knit team who work mainly with cats and kittens.
Dogs and puppies tend to go to Greymouth or other SPCA Centres to be cared for, and we conduct most of our animal adoptions from there.
We also have boarding facilities that can take up to 15 cats at a time, and a wonderful op shop on the main street.
All cruelty reports should be made by phone: 03 789 7520
If you have an animal welfare complaint, please call our team on 03 789 7520. Our team will be on call during our centre opening hours – please see above. If you have an animal emergency outside of these hours, please contact Buller Vets on 03 789 7934. For any problems with stray, found or lost dogs, please contact the local council. Please contact the local police for any instances where an animal or person/s welfare is at immediate risk.
Do not email or Facebook us to report emergencies.
