Making a difference in CanterburyVolunteer with us
Under Alert Level 2 our Centre is only open by appointment. We ask anyone who would like to come to the Centre with enquiries about adoptions, fostering and volunteering, to contact us first and make an appointment. You can do so by visiting the relevant page on our website or by calling our Centre on the number provided above. Physical distancing, mask-wearing, and contact tracing measures will be in place.
SPCA's Christchurch Centre is the oldest established SPCA in New Zealand and has been the voice for those who can’t speak for themselves since 1872.
With approximately 40 dedicated staff and over 500 incredible volunteers the Christchurch Centre is also the largest in the Southern Region and works hard to provide support to other centres ensuring better outcomes for NZ animals.
Our Centre’s primary focus is animal welfare, however we also have a small retail shop onsite with 100% of profits going back into helping the animals.
All cruelty reports should be made by phone: 03 349 7057
Do not email or Facebook us to report emergencies.
If you have an animal welfare complaint, please call our team on 03 349 7057. Our team will be on call 7am-9pm, seven days a week during summer (daylight saving hours) and 7am-7pm during winter. If you have an animal emergency outside of these hours, please contact the Christchurch After Hours Veterinary Centre on 03 366 1052. They are located at 146 Antigua Street, Addington and offer professional, caring veterinary emergency care when your regular veterinary clinic is closed.
Christchurch After Hours Veterinary Centre operates Monday to Thursday 7pm - 8am, and Fri from 7pm without closing until Monday at 8am. They are open all weekends and public holidays.
For any problems with stray, found or lost dogs, please contact your local council.
