Toxicology Testing
SPCA advocates for continuous improvement in the refinement, reduction, and replacement of animals used in testing.
SPCA supports technological advances that have replaced the use of animals in testing such as organs on chips or artificial skin, reduced the number of animals used through mathematical modelling or methods using human cells and tissues, and refined practices such as improved delivery methods of a toxic substance and humane endpoints that do not require animals to experience severe welfare harms whilst maintaining the scientific integrity of the experiments.
Our organisation opposes testing which permits animals to experience severe negative states of welfare harm.
