Psychological and Behavioural Research, Testing, and Teaching

SPCA advocates for advancements in technology and more open disciplinary attitudes and practices to move away from the use of outdated psychological or behavioural tests.

SPCA is concerned with the systemic tolerance or uncritical use of questionable or outdated psychological and behavioural tests that may be chosen by researchers, or which may be required or accepted by grant review committees and journal peer reviewers.

SPCA advocates for the development and use of research paradigms that avoid the use of aversive stimuli for psychological and behavioural research, teaching and testing.

SPCA opposes the use of animals in research, testing, and teaching where harms from psychological and behavioural experiments are not minimised.

Animals in research, testing, and teaching should not experience unmitigated states such as pain, fear, and distress.
