Giving just two hours of time can make a meaningful impact - SPCA's "Fill the Bucket" street appeal is back

SPCA needs volunteers to support its nationwide fundraising appeal - Fill the Bucket.

SPCA's national street appeal takes place on October 30 and 31 - so why not swap trick-or-treating for bucket collecting and help make a difference for vulnerable animals in need?

Fill the Bucket brings communities together through volunteer-led street collections and a supporting digital fundraising appeal.

"We really need volunteers to make the appeal happen - it's just two hours of time that can make a meaningful impact," says SPCA Events and Partnerships Manager, Elinor Birch.

"Fill the Bucket is about communities coming together to support our sick, injured and abandoned animals in need.

"Whether you're able to donate, volunteer for a couple of hours, or help coordinate collections in your area, every contribution helps us to care of the thousands of animals who come through our doors each year."

The campaign aims to raise money to help SPCA continue providing care, protection and second chances for animals across Aotearoa.

At the heart of the appeal are two days where volunteer collectors will be stationed at approved collection sites throughout the country, encouraging members of the public to donate and show their support for animals in need.

"Every donation, no matter the size, helps make a difference for vulnerable animals," says Elinor.

Those interested in volunteering can sign up online.

For those unable to volunteer, SPCA encourages New Zealanders to support the campaign by donating and sharing the appeal with their friends, family and wider networks.

“We understand it’s a tough time for kiwis at the moment, due to high cost of living and fuel prices. Any amount no matter how big or small makes the biggest difference to our animals as they battle sickness and injury.

"Every donation is essential to helping to care for our special furry friends before they find their forever homes,” Elinor says.

“Together, we can Fill the Bucket and help give animals the care, protection and second chances they deserve.”
