The SPCA Hobsonville Centre is encouraging the community to attend its Open Day on Sunday 7 December.
The event kicks off from 10:00am to 2:00pm and provides an opportunity for Aucklanders to explore the Centre’s newly renovated facilities, learn about SPCA’s animal welfare work, and enjoy a range of family-friendly activities.
The Open Day will feature guided tours of the Centre, offering insight into SPCA’s operations and animal care practices. Tours will run every 30 minutes from 10:15am, with limited spaces available. Pre-booking is recommended to avoid missing out.
Guests can also enjoy SPCA-themed games, a BBQ fundraiser proudly supported by SPCA Certified Better Eggs, and an interactive “Inspector Dress-Up and Learn” activity for children, where they can experience what it’s like to be an SPCA Inspector.
After being closed to the public since September 2, 2024, the Centre reopened in mid-May to the public, following a major refurbishment designed to increase capacity, as well as improve conditions for incoming animals.
The Centre was originally built to be both a Doggy Daycare and a rescue Centre for cats and dogs. However, demand for Doggy Daycare services dropped significantly post-Covid-19. The team then decided to maximise the space available and converted the area to care for sick, injured, and vulnerable animals.
The Hobsonville team is excited to showcase its upgraded spaces and service. Visitors will gain a behind-the-scenes look at how SPCA cares for animals in need and learn about ways to get involved.
"This refurbishment has completely revitalised our space, allowing us to provide even better care for the animals who need us. We’re looking forward to welcoming the public and showing them the changes in our Centre,” says Centre Manager Tayla Young-Cokanasiga.
“The SPCA Hobsonville Centre plays a big role in caring for animals and supporting the local community. This Open Day is an opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate the difference we can make together,” Tayla says.
