SPCA unveils new Hobsonville Centre
SPCA is reopening a newly refurbished Hobsonville Centre and national office space, marking an important milestone in its commitment to animal welfare.
After being closed to the public since 2 September 2024, the Centre has reopened to the public, following a major refurbishment designed to increase capacity, as well as improve conditions for incoming animals.
"This refurbishment has completely revitalised our space, allowing us to provide even better care for the animals who need us. We’re looking forward to welcoming the public back and showing them what we’ve been working on,” says Centre Manager Tayla Young- Cokanasiga.
The Centre was originally built to be both a Doggy Daycare as well as a rescue Centre for cats and dogs. However, demand for Doggy Daycare services dropped significantly post-Covid19. To ensure we maximize the space available, the Centre has been converted to care for sick, injured, and vulnerable animals. The new space now features modern, spacious enclosures, and improved isolation and quarantine areas, benefiting sick animals undergoing needed treatment.
"The improvements to our isolation facilities are a game-changer," says Tayla.
"We can now provide a much more comfortable and hygienic environment for animals in quarantine, ensuring they receive the best possible care."
The expansion has significantly increased capacity, with feline accommodation rising from 40 to 78 spaces and canine capacity growing from six to 28. Additionally, renovations to the upper part of the building have allowed workspace for SPCA staff.
"This project has been all about making the best use of our resources so we can better serve vulnerable animals.
"Every upgrade was made with their welfare in mind, and we couldn’t be happier to see the difference it makes."
The newly reopened Hobsonville Centre will ensure better animal care and operational efficiency, ensuring a brighter future for the animals and staff who call it home.
