First desexing event of 2018 aims to create a better future for cats

The SPCA has worked hard in recent years to address the problem of too many cats being born unwanted and not living a good quality of life.

By introducing targeted desexing campaigns, we hope to make a significant impact and lower the high cat populations that lead to thousands of cats and kittens being neglected and abused each year.

The aim for our campaigns is to also reach out to those who may not have considered having their cat desexed, or may not be able to afford it, and provide cat owners who do not currently have a local vet to get to know one.

From 5-16 March 2018, we are offering free desexing for cats in 12 Auckland suburbs.

We are focusing our desexing programme on the suburbs responsible for a significant number of the kittens coming into SPCA Auckland. We truly believe that desexing and responsible ownership are the only way to address the cause of unwanted animals being born, abused and neglected.

Free desexing will be available to residents of the following suburbs:

  • Avondale
  • Henderson
  • Mangere
  • Manurewa
  • Mt Roskill
  • Mt Wellington
  • New Lynn
  • Onehunga
  • Otahuhu
  • Otara
  • Papakura
  • Papatoetoe

We would like to thank the participating vets in advance for their help with campaign. Together we can all create a better future for cats.

Free desexing appointments are limited, so cat owners should call SPCA Auckland today on (09) 256 7310 to book early and avoid disappointment.
