Meet Ellie, the tiny kitten with a giant will to live!
Somebody loved her once – she had a collar to prove it. But when she was found, this tiny kitten was covered in mud, shivering, and unable to walk on her badly wounded back leg.
Ellie was just a small, weak kitten when she was brought into our Centre. She was covered in mud, underweight, and incredibly distressed. She had a nasty wound on her back leg that was obviously causing her lots of pain. Ellie needed help, and fast.
The surgery Ellie underwent was tough on her little body, and the vets weren’t sure if she would make it through the night. The extent of Ellie’s injuries, her small size, and her rough start were all against her. But Ellie was stronger than she looked and survived both the surgery and those critical first hours!
Because of her fragile state following her surgery, Ellie spent time in an oxygen tent. After the ordeal of being wounded and having emergency surgery, Ellie needed help to wake up from the anaesthetic, readjust her breathing, and regulate her body temperate. The oxygen tent was critical in helping her to rest and recuperate.
Ellie was fortunate that the specialist equipment and intensive surgery she required was available when she needed it. But it’s only because of donations from generous supporters that animals in our Centres have access to exceptional medical care and life-saving equipment.
While amputation had been an option, vets were committed to Ellie’s future and did all they could to make sure she kept her leg. After a month in hospital, Ellie’s leg wound was fully healed, and she was running around playfully like any other kitten. She eventually went to a loving foster home who helped her prepare for adoption.
Ellie was a very lucky kitten indeed!
It takes a village to help animals like Ellie. Everyone played an important role in her recovery, including the kind person who brought her to our Centre, our vet team, animal attendants, volunteers and fosterers. Ellie received all the physical care, love, and attention she needed to survive her nasty injury and thrive. But none of this specialist care would have been possible without donations from caring animal lovers from around the country – caring animal lovers like you.
Together we can achieve incredible results for vulnerable animals. Thank you for helping to save Ellie and animals like her.
