EarthSeaSky and Brackenridge team up for the animals

19 November 2025

What happens when you bring together a local business, a disability support service, and SPCA animals? Colour, creativity, and lots of wagging tails!

EarthSeaSky and Brackenridge team up for the animals

Back in March, outdoor clothing company EarthSeaSky generously donated a bale of fabric offcuts to SPCA. These scraps, destined for landfill, became the foundation of something special. Partnering with Brackenridge’s Choices team, the fabric was transformed into nearly 200 bright and playful toys for dogs and cats in our care.

Recently, the Brackenridge team came to SPCA Christchurch to deliver the first batch. The toys – stitched, braided, and full of character – were put straight to the test by some very enthusiastic dogs. Watching animals and people connect through these handmade gifts was a moment of pure joy.

And the story doesn’t stop there. Plans are already underway for the next bale of offcuts to be delivered to Brackenridge, ensuring the creative cycle continues. More fabric will mean more toys, more enrichment for our animals, and more opportunities for the Choices team to share their skills and pride in making a difference.

Brackenridge's Choices team gave EarthSeaSky's fabric offcuts a new life.

This project shows what’s possible when communities work together: waste reduced, creativity unlocked, and animals given enrichment that makes their days brighter while they wait for loving homes.

A huge thank you to Dave and Jane Ellis of EarthSeaSky, the dedicated Choices team from Brackenridge, and our own SPCA staff who brought it all together. Together, you’ve turned scraps into smiles – and this is only the beginning.
