Donations to be doubled on A Furever Home Giving Day

When you hear the words ‘A Furever Home’, what do you think of? Maybe a warm bed, good food, lots of play, cuddles, and a whole world of love. For the animals in SPCA’s care, it’s all of these things, plus the comfort of feeling safe and secure, and never having to worry again.

Finding A Furever Home for every animal in our care is our priority. Our animal care teams and volunteers work hard to ensure that every animal finds the best possible home. For both the animals and the humans that adopt them.

Because finding that perfect Furever Home is so important, on Wednesday 18 March SPCA is having a special A Furever Home Giving Day.

Thanks to the generous team at Petdirect and a wonderful individual donor, every donation to SPCA made on Wednesday 18 March will be matched. All funds received will be used to help find the animals in our care their own ‘furever home’.

When it comes to the number of animals we care for around the country, the figures are startling:

• Every day, 110 injured, sick, and vulnerable animals arrive at Centres around the country, in desperate need of rehabilitation, care, love — and often complex surgery
• Last year, we helped 15,479 animals find their very own Furever Homes
• With 3,740 animals in our care right now, we’re relying on your help to ensure they receive the vet treatment, surgery, and rehabilitation they need

With only 10% of SPCA’s operating costs funded by the Government – all of which is strictly allocated to SPCA’s Inspectorate team – the vast majority of SPCA’s lifesaving work is only made possible thanks to donations from the New Zealand public.

We’re incredibly grateful to our Giving Day partners at Petdirect. As a 100% Kiwi-owned pet supply retailer with a real passion for animal welfare, their team understands just how much animals mean to the families who love them. Their generosity, alongside the wonderful late Peter Maclean, is what makes it possible to double your donation on this special day.

To receive the care they need, all animals in SPCA’s 27 Centres rely entirely on the generosity of animal lovers around the country. Funds raised from A Furever Home Giving Day will do so much to help care for the vulnerable animals who need our help. Every donation helps to fund vital rehabilitation, vet treatment, and surgery, so every animal in SPCA’s care can get closer to finding their Furever Home.

We are asking anyone in a position to make a one-off donation – even if you can only do so once a year – to take this opportunity to double their impact, and see their dollar go twice as far on Wednesday 18 March.

Already in 2026, thanks to the help of caring donors, almost 2,000 animals are settling into their Furever Homes with new families who love them to bits.
