Over the past 10 years Purina has provided more than 1,000,000kg of pet food for our animals, alongside critical support for many other areas of SPCA’s work.

Purina x SPCA: A decade of partnering to feed a better future for pets

Every day, sick, injured and vulnerable animals in New Zealand come to SPCA for their second chance at life. The support we give them is made possible by the generous Purina team, and is brought to life by the work of SPCA staff and volunteers across New Zealand. In 2026, we officially reached the 10-year mark of our partnership!

Over the past decade, Purina has proudly donated more than 1,000,000kg of pet food to our Centres around the country. This food ensures that our cats and dogs have the nutrition they need to kickstart their recovery, helping them grow strong and prepare for the next chapters of their lives.

Together, SPCA and Purina are helping animals throughout their journeys, from receiving care from our vet teams to adoption into their forever homes. From treats upon arrival at our Centres to the food they’re fed every day by Centre teams and foster parents, Purina keeps the cats and dogs in our care strong and healthy so they’re ready for what comes next.

And the food isn’t the only part of these contributions that our animals enjoy – cardboard delivery boxes provide endless entertainment for our cats while they wait for forever homes!

Of course, our partnership extends far beyond pet food. Purina also provides critical support for SPCA campaigns, fundraising initiatives, adoption programmes, and animal welfare outcomes.

Their support creates meaningful and lasting outcomes for animals – like Minty and Maizey.

Found in a shed with their mother, littermates Minty and Maizey were brought to our Hamilton Centre in need of care. They were both suffering from cat flu, an uncomfortable respiratory infection that causes gunky eyes, runny noses and breathing difficulties. We knew they would need to gain strength to beat their illness!

Our vets recommended a diet of Purina food, including Fancy Feast and Purina ONE Healthy Kitten wet food, to help the kittens grow big and strong. And grow big and strong they did! Eventually they were made ready for adoption — and after just six days of waiting, their new family brought them home together.

Now seven months old, their new mum Cecily tells us that “they are absolutely delightful” cats. “[They’re] full of life and very fond of each other,” she says. We’re so pleased to see Minty and Maizey happy together in their new home, and so grateful to Purina for making stories like theirs possible!

This 10-year milestone is an opportunity to celebrate the shared commitment of SPCA and Purina to improving the lives of animals across New Zealand. We’re looking forward to our collaborative future, and are excited to continue working together to help animals in need!
