Animal Centre Volunteers
Christchurch Centre
We are looking for volunteers who want to get stuck in and work hard to support the lifesaving work of our Centre in Christchurch. We have roles available working with all species, as well as general centre support roles.
What will be involved:
- Cleaning cages and kennels
- Feeding animals
- General cleaning of the areas including laundry, mopping, litter trays and dishes
- Providing enrichment and socialisation for our animals
You will be able to choose which area you work in, and can roster yourself in for shift days and times that suit you.
As an SPCA volunteer you will:
- Have a love for animals and an awareness of their behaviour
- Be 16 years or older
- Be able to follow instructions
- Be able to take initiative
- Be reliable and hardworking
An onsite induction and hands-on training will be provided to successful applicants, and ongoing opportunities to learn more about the care of our animals.
At this time we have a waitlist new volunteers who need a flexible schedule – but if you are able to commit to a regular weekly volunteering time we can get you going right away. Please get in touch either way, and we will do our best to get you on site and helping out as soon as possible!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for SPCA. Volunteers are a vital part of the SPCA team and we simply couldn't do the work we do without the large number of volunteers who donate their time to help the animals.
Please fill out this form as completely as you are able. If you need assistance, please call the team at your local SPCA Centre or op shop.
Please note: All of our centres and op shops have minimum age requirements for volunteer jobs. If you are under 16 years of age, please enquire directly with your local centre about volunteer opportunities. You may be need to provide an up-to-date Ministry of Justice check prior to starting.
