Canine volunteer – canine assistant
Help us improve the lives of dogs in our care. This role in our canine team is a customer service and support role.
You will be talking to potential owners and matching our dogs to their situation and ensuring adoption application paperwork and database are updated.
You will also be responsible for supervising “meet and greets” with potential new owners with both our dogs and their own and ensuring the safety of both people and dogs. As well as supporting new volunteers on their shift.
Volunteers work with, and must be confident handling, our adult dogs – who come in all shapes and sizes. Some of these dogs come to us with little or no training.
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Personal time commitment: one shift once a week or one shift every third weekend for a minimum of 6 months. Shifts are generally half day or full day.
- Training: you will be required to attend training sessions for your specific area, in addition to receiving training while on-the-job during your shift.
- Experience: previous experience with dogs is essential. Previous customer service experience would be beneficial and confidence talking to people is essential.
