Are you thinking of running your own fundraising event for SPCA? Browse through the links below and you will find everything you need to make your event a success.

These are our top 10 fundraising ideas (in no particular order) for anyone planning to run an event at work. You can click on each of the links to learn more about that event.

If you have any questions or want to discuss any of the ideas below, contact our Events and Community Fundraising team at events@spca.nz.

If you do set up a fundraising page, please do email us at events@spca.nz to let us know, and we can ensure we have your correct details and be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

1. Dress down day

In exchange for a donation, encourage your colleagues to ditch the ‘formal work wear’ for a day. Add an animal-theme and see how creative your colleagues can be.

This is an easy and profitable idea that works well when combined with other fundraising ideas.

You could also incorporate a small donation into ‘dress-down Friday’ each week. You’ll be surprised how quickly it adds up.

Raise even more by asking colleagues to set up their own online fundraising page to share with friends and family.

2. Swear box

Create an ongoing fundraiser by introducing a swear box to your office. Different profanities can incur different levels of fines. The total will grow quicker than you think – unless you work in an angelic office.

This idea can be expanded to include other forms of punishment that are more applicable to your office.

Don’t carry cash? Set up an online fundraising page, you can leave it open for as long as you like.

3. Give it up

The perfect combination of detoxing and fundraising. Ask friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you to give something up. It could be:

  • Something you consume a lot of – alcohol / chocolate / coffee etc.
  • Something you want to do less of – talking / Facebook / mobile phone etc.
  • Something you want to give up completely – smoking / meat / fast food etc.

Set up an online fundraising page, tell people what you’re doing and why you’re doing it and ask for their support.

4. Sweepstake

Running an office sweepstake is a fun and easy way of raising money for the animals while encouraging friendly competition amongst colleagues.

It’s simple, all participants make a donation to enter, half of the money goes to the winner and the other half comes directly to the animals.

5. Golf day

A charity golf day is a great way of raising a large amount of money for New Zealand’s animals whilst also providing a team-building exercise for colleagues and a networking event for clients and customers.

There are so many ways you can raise money through a golf day. Get started now!

6. Quiz night

Create a bit of friendly competition amongst your colleagues that will be talked about for weeks afterwards and raise money for animals in need at the same time.

Charge an entry fee and raise additional money by including a raffle or charity auction – don’t forget that the better the prizes, the more money will be raised.

Too busy to be quiz master? Share the load by asking different departments or teams to host a round each. Get started now!

7. Bring your pet to work

Similar to the ‘dress-down day’, participants make a donation for the privilege of bringing their beloved pets to work with them for the day.

If you’re running this event please make sure you give full consideration to the welfare of all animals involved. Do not bring animals into a stressful environment or a situation where they may be at risk or in danger of escaping.

Our sponsor Purina has great tips on bringing pets to work on their Pets at Work website.

8. Bake sale

Set up a stall in your office and ask for a donation for your delicious baked treats. Any money you raise comes straight to the animals here at SPCA.

Why not expand the idea by nominating a different person or team as your ‘weekly baker’. The money you raise will multiply very quickly, especially if you’re in a large office.

9. Auction of promises

The key to a really successful auction is to get prizes that people genuinely want to bid for.

Ask the boss to donate an extra day of annual leave, find someone who will do the tea & coffee runs for a month, give lifts to work or clean their colleagues’ desks. Items that money can’t buy will be a lot more popular. How desperately do you want that extra day of leave?

10. Collection box

Placing an SPCA collection box in your office, shop, pub, club or business to collect change is a fantastic way to fundraise. It’s really easy and you’ll be surprised how quickly the money adds up.

To arrange a collection box for your workplace or to find out more about the collection box program, please contact our fundraising team on events@spca.nz.
