Happy adoption stories
Many of our adopters, volunteers, donors and friends send us stories and photos of the animals who give them so much joy. We dedicate this space to all of you whose lives have been changed by animals.

Chick
"We happily now have Little Chick (formerly Chicken Nugget) in our whānau. My friend sent me her page after hearing we were intending to add to our family. It was initially a bit funny, because one of our other dogs is called Nugget (who looks very similar to Chick).
When I opened the link, I fell in love with Chick straight away and was so keen to meet her. During the week I rang Wellington SPCA and booked in to meet Chick that Saturday. My husband and I made the 1.5 hr journey to meet her, and we both fell in love with her.
We seemed to bond straight away, Chick engaged easily with us. There were lots of cuddles. We didn't plan on taking Chick home that day because we had two other dogs that had to meet her, but they don't travel well. The SPCA staff were so accommodating, and suggested that we do the meet-and-greet at home. I jumped at this, because I did not want to leave this precious girl behind. My husband was just as keen, and after we bought Chick some things she'd need from their shop, we loaded up the car to head home.
I sat in the back with Chick, and she fell asleep quickly, only waking up for a huge vomit at the top of the Remutakas! Once home, she met the pack - her new family. That day she discovered water and cows, responding with natural curiosity.
Since then it's like she's always been with us. We are so happy she's our girl! It also turned out a friend of ours met Chick when volunteering at the centre Chick lived at. I really feel that we chose each other, a treasured bond to be nurtured for life.
Chick loves stretching her body out in the sun, cuddles, burrowing under the duvet, exploring, playing with her brother Nugget, and food of course. She gets into bed with me when we're all sleeping and snuggles up.
Thank you SPCA for your amazing care of Chick, allowing her to come into our lives."
