About our Education Visits
-
The New Plymouth SPCA Centre has been dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals since 1912. Education plays a key role in cruelty prevention.
Our goal is to give people the knowledge and resources necessary to care for animals and prevent cruelty to them. We endeavour to build empathy in children and adults, towards people and animals.
Our educator can visit your school, club or organisation or you can come and visit us. We visit students of all ages, clubs and adult organisations. Presentations are flexible and we do ask for a donation to help cover our costs.
Visits typically last about 30 minutes and can cover a diverse range of topics, including:
- the history of the SPCA
- animal needs
- animal welfare
- pet overpopulation
- building trust with people and animals
- and more.
In many cases, our visits fit into the school curriculum. Special presentations can be designed for groups with more specific needs.
Specially selected SPCA animals are brought along to the visits whenever possible.
