Making a difference in the Central Hawkes BayVolunteer with us
Our Waipukurau Centre is now closed to the public until further notice due to the Covid-19 nationwide lockdown.
The Waipukurau Centre (previously Central Hawkes Bay SPCA) was founded 1989 and has been located at its current site since 1993. Until recently the centre has been entirely run by a dedicated core team of 25 volunteers, including a voluntary committee.
Our inspector deals with approximately 100 welfare calls a year and the centre looks after 300-400 incoming animals annually.
Much of our local income comes from our opshop which is run entirely by volunteers, including the manager. We are also well supported by a handful of local business sponsors and around 100 regular donors in our local community – support that makes all the difference to the animals.
The Waipukurau Centre serves generally Central Hawkes Bay from Te Aute in the north to Takapau in the south, from the Ruahines in the west to the coast in the east. This includes the settlements of Onga Onga, Tikokino and Porangahau and the larger centres of Waipukurau, Waipawa and Otane.
