Making a difference in OpotikiVolunteer with us
Our SPCA Centre in Opotiki was established in 1961. After sharing premises with the District pound for a while to help with feeding and cleaning of impounded dogs, the centre moved to its current location in 2014.
Everything at our centre happens thanks to the wonderful support of our community. We have only one paid staff member and a very small group of wonderful loyal volunteers who help either at the centre or with fundraising activities. Inspectorate services are covered by the Tauranga team.
The Opotiki Centre has around 200 incoming animals each year, mostly kittens and cats as we currently don’t have facilities for puppies or dogs. All our puppies and dogs get looked after in foster homes.
Our Opotiki centre covers a large area, heading out East to Lottin Point (187 kms away from the centre), up to Traffords Hill (57 kms away) and through to Wainui Road turnoff (20 kms from the centre).
