Making a difference in the Far NorthVolunteer with us
Under Alert Level 1 our centre is open, however, enquiries about adoptions, fostering and volunteering are by appointment. We ask anyone who would like to come to a centre to contact us first and make an appointment. You can do so by calling our centre on the number provided above. If you are dropping off donations we would love to see you during our opening hours at any time.
SPCA's Kaitaia Centre and its sister facility, the Kerikeri Centre work hard to ensure that animals in the Far North region are being well cared for and are in good health.
We educate people on how to look after animals properly, and how to treat them with love and respect.
To prevent cruelty to our animals, we have two dedicated Animal Welfare Inspectors who look after the vast area we cover – from the Kaihu on the West Coast to Russell on the East Coast and everything North, to the Cape.
If you have found a sick or injured animal, contact us immediately on 0800 428 464 (press option 2).
If you have found a roaming or dangerous dog, please call the Far North District Council on 0800 920 029 or 09 401 5200.
If you have found an injured bird or native bird, please contact either your local vet clinic or the Whangarei Native Bird Recovery Centre.
If the animal is healthy and not in danger, please click here to see how you can help.
We list every incoming stray animal on www.lostpet.co.nz so please check the listings to see if we might have your missing pet.
If your animal is not listed, we have some tips on how to find your pet on our Advice & Welfare section.
