SPCA advocates for mandatory, consistent, and clear labelling on animal food products to enable consumers to make informed decisions when purchasing items; this should include standardised legal definitions of terms such as barn-raised, free range, outdoor, and organic.
SPCA advocates that animal products for sale in New Zealand be produced to welfare standards that exceed New Zealand law and should be labelled accordingly. Our organisation opposes the importation of animal products which have been produced using practices that are illegal in New Zealand
SPCA supports those who purchase animal products, to select the most ethical items produced from higher welfare systems. Consumers should be able to make informed choices about the animal production systems they support through their purchases. SPCA advocates for consistent and clear labelling on animal food products which must include compulsory standardised legal definitions of terms such as barn-raised, free range and organic.
