Volunteer positions
Hospital / ARC volunteer
Auckland (Mangere) Centre
We need help from patient animal lovers who want to volunteer in a healthcare setting! We have two opportunities for volunteers to help our most vulnerable and sick animals at SPCA.
At our Hospital, you'll support our staff by handling tasks like dishes, cleaning cages, and any other tasks to support our veterinary team. While you won't have much direct animal interaction, this work is invaluable to allow our staff to provide the intensive care our animals need.
In the Animal Recovery Centre (ARC), our volunteers play a crucial role in caring for sick cats and helping them on their path to recovery. We clean cages, feed cats, and sanitize the areas where they receive their care. It's important to note that we deal with cats facing various health challenges, which can sometimes be emotionally demanding.
We need volunteers who:
- Are comfortable working with vulnerable animals
- Are able to work independently
- Are friendly, hardworking, and reliable
- Are available on weekdays
- Are able to effectively communicate with staff and other volunteers
Both morning and afternoon shifts are available:
Morning: 8.30am-12pm
Afternoon: 12.30pm-4pm
If you are interested in this role, please apply through the application below.
If you have any questions, please phone us on 09 256 7300 or email jake.lamb@spca.nz.

For: Hospital / ARC volunteer at Auckland (Mangere) Centre
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for SPCA. Volunteers are a vital part of the SPCA team and we simply couldn't do the work we do without the large number of volunteers who donate their time to help the animals.
Please fill out the form below to start your volunteer journey with us. If you need assistance, please call the team at your local SPCA Centre or op shop.
Please note: Our centres and op shops have minimum age requirements to volunteer. For op shops the minimum age is 15 years. For volunteering at a centre, please enquire with them directly if you are under 16 years of age. You may need to provide an up-to-date Ministry of Justice check prior to starting. Please be aware that during the application process we will ask about any medical conditions (physical or mental) we need to be aware of to ensure your safety while volunteering for us.
